A History of RC Tracks in Kamloops

October 15th 2020

Whether it’s that first new RC car you get as a ten-year-old boy, or your fifty-first such car when you’re well into retirement, RC Nation in Kamloops, BC is the shop for you. We are excited to kick off our blog with its information, stories, and history for all you RC fans out there. Whatever RC vehicles or parts you need, we will have it or get it for you. Repairs? We have got you covered … we focus on community and culture and cannot wait to continue this wild ride with you. Events, races, track time, we will keep you in the know.

Through the years RC sport and all its fans have had tracks in a huge array of places and venues. From elementary schools to universities, to parks, to bare land that is now a parking lot, RC racing has moved around but endured and continued despite the changes. Close to thirty years ago, RC vehicles were zooming around the then named TCC gym and RC fans and club members built an outdoor track where the Superstore parking lot currently is. In the intervening years between then and now there have been tracks at MacDonald Park and a few seasons at McGowan Park Elementary and OLPH. Indoor racing carpet has even been set up and used all winter long at the Northills Shopping Centre.

There have been several major events at our Kamloops tracks, and we are proud of the excellent community we have continued to develop. The ‘Superstore’ track hosted two ROAR Canadian National Off-Road Championships in ‘96 and ‘97. For anyone who has done off-roading in and around Kamloops you can imagine how much fun was had by all. Kamloops, and more specifically the MacDonald Park track, also hosted two ROAR Canadian National Pavement Championships in ‘99 and ‘00. More recently, the track at Northills has been made a key cross over point in the Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series which is eight races from Victoria to Regina.

The Kamloops track behind the Valleyview arena has been the site of some awesome events, and many a family, fans and/or racers have enjoyed RC sport. Only a small sampling of which are: club races, fun days, the Summer Classic Race, and the Twin Rivers Shootout race.

RC Nation is new on the Kamloops scene and we are happy to become your go-to place for everything RC. Whether you’re curious about the different classes and specs in each or if you need a guide for your next DIY project or upgrade, our team is happy to see you and help in any way they can. COVID-19 specific safety measures and enough space to adhere to social distancing make RC Nation the destination for an outing with your family or a small circle of friends. We’ve got a full-service centre, can do trade appraisals, and if you’d rather shop from the comfort of your own home we have an excellent e-commerce store.
